Won't start !!!
I have a 70 with a 351c/c6. I bought it that way. It ran when I bought it, and for a while after. Then it stopped - turned the key, and nothing. I have a remote starter switch - when I hook that up, the motor cranks but won't fire. After looking at the wiring under the hood and dash, I ordered an EZ kit - it's on the way. However, the truck is currently parked on the street in front of our house. I'd like to get it started so that I can put it in the garage to do the re-wire. What do I need to do under the hood to bypass most of the ignition circuit?

Re: Won't start !!!
replace the ignition switch. the reason i says that is . i figure you may not have had the switch turned on when doing the remote start button. but if you did then it could be the plug is loose on the back of the switch. or the spade terminals in the plug could be loose and not contacting the ignition switch spade terminals.
the red wire coming from the solenoid goes to the ignition switch. when the switch is turned power is sent through the switch to the red wire and makes the solenoid actuate. the brown wire from the solenoid gives a full 12 volts to the coil when cranking the engine over.

Okay, but I saw in another post where some folks wanted to keep answers to questions like mine private.

Re: Won't start !!!
Hi Fordman,
I had the key in and the switch on attempting remote start - I got nothing. All the wiring in the truck looks terrible, so I bought a wiring harness:
Product : Quantity : Price
EZ 21 - 18 Fuse 21 Circuit-COLOR : 1 : 185.00
I just want to get my truck off the street and into the garage without having to push it up the driveway. I saw this in another post:
Power to the + side of the coil
- side of the coil goes to dist
...
Will this work? My distributor is wired to the + side of the coil now along with a red and a blue wire coming from ???. There is also a red wire running to the - side of the coil ??? I can't wait to rip all of that garbage out and start fresh with the EZ harness. But I'd also rather not re-wire my truck in the street in front on my neighbors and the dreaded HOA!

Re: Won't start !!!
What kind of ignition system do you have on your motor? Points or electronic? If the latter, Duraspark or 3rd party?

Re: Won't start !!!
you just have to test and see where power is or isnt going to or coming from. it you have power from the switch to the coil it should start.

Re: Won't start !!!
You were right Fordman - the ignition switch, upon closer inspection, is toast (cracked, burnt, a piece missing, lose wires, etc. I'm going to order a new one from LMC. Any comment on the under-hood hotwire suggestion?

Re: Won't start !!!
Yes, just run a wire from the battery (+) to the (+) side of the coil and use your remote starter switch to get it fired up, you just don't want to run it this way for very long as it is hard on the points but will be fine to move it into your garage.fordkenstein wrote: Power to the + side of the coil

Re: Won't start !!!
Fired right up. Thanks!
EZ harness should be here Tuesday night.
Hopefully, the switch (and some other goodies) will be here from LMC next week too.
I'll start on it next weekend.
Any tips for my re-wire project?
