hot wire

Has anyone ever ran a hot wire from switch to underhood fuse block or relay for acc? Im going to add several hot wires that turn on with switch but i dont want to keep having to run a wire to the switch

some years of trucks have two extra posts on the fuse box for extra power out. but running one power wire to a new fuse box under the hood right off the positive battery cable would give you a place to hook up power to switches.

Check the wiring diagrams here on the board (links at top in the factory literature, I believe).

I found a blue wire under my dash that went nowhere, with a butt receptacle on the end. I found it was hot with the ignition switch on, and this is what I used for a trigger to the relays I used for my ignition; MSD and Pertronix, two relays (one for each item) so I didn't have to worry about the resistance wire or bypassing it. Been quite awhile since I discovered it, but if I remember correctly it is a full 12V source.

Buy an aftermarket fuse/relay block, wire from the battery and plumb your circuits.

Correct, as long as you're wiring directly from the battery it is a constant hot.

im need a hotwire thats only hot when switch is on

You can run a relay to power something whereas the relay is switch by the ground wire.

I used a four circuit fuse block from Painless Wiring . I believe you can get as many as 20 circuits if needed. Weatherproof models if needed. i just ran one hot one from the switch and branched off from the fuse block to obtain as many switched hots as needed.

I am on the same boat as you and this is my current plan:

I am going to excite the relay on this fuse block from either the Emergency Flasher or the Gauge fuse terminal on the Bumps fuse block. The reason I am using these is they are on with the key in ACC but also still hot at START.

I plan on fusing some ignition stuff here so it would suck if I turned the key and it would not have power!!
