What is this?

What does this part do? I know it goes in the drivers door frame by the dome light activator but I can't figure out what it's supposed to do. It's got sealed up wires in the back and I only pulled it from a junkyard truck to fill up the hole in my own door. Just curious.....

I can usually figure these things out but I'm afraid I'm really lost. What is a TRS system? And what does an ambient sensor sense?

TRS Transmission Regulated Spark control device. emissions stuff.

So is it safe to say that if its not working or hooked up, the entire system can be removed from the vehicle with out problems?

yes. it wont hurt anything to remove it.
