F600 panel questions

I have various hole saws for electrical work and I found one that does my 2 inch gauges and 3.5 gauges.

Dragon, I too have quite a few hole saws. I'm just in too much of a hurry to finish the truck right now. And usually when I'm rushing like this something's bound to go wrong! Took way too long to find the F-600 panel... I'll save up-grading the instruments for a later date.

BTW I have done the F600 swap AND a 3G swap,just want to keep an eye on it.

I did mine a little different as I mounted the guts from the voltage gauge in place of the guts for the amp gauge, I then took the two wires that were for the amp gauge (red and yellow) and tied one to the ground wire (Black wire) and the other to the (Black/green stripped) for 12V source on the instrument cluster wires. I didn't use any of the new gauge wires.

You could still tie into the Black/green stripped wire for power, and for that short of a run 16 gauge would be plenty. If you make it longer I would check with the instructions for the gauge, but 16 gauge should be good for about any length you would use on the truck.

I just got a f600 panel for my '71. I'm about a rock when it comes to wiring - any pointers would be appreciated.

I'm thinking I want to do this conversion on my '70. I need a better place to put my hard oil pressure gauge, and I'm going to want an oil-pressure-operated switch to power an hourmeter. If I could afford an old Sun two piece Tach, I'd install one of them too.

do we have a reliable source for these panels?

We got one for the Ranchero a few years back, they're handy if you're out on the road and the CRS kicks in!
Gotta' say I believe I found one or two wire discrepancies in the one for my 71' though. But like always...in too much of a hurry to verify. Fordification's wiring diagrams have gotten me out of a lot of trouble!

Checked the '70 wiring-diagram, and traced the wires on the new gauge, this is what I came up with.

New Dash:


Not sure what the red, yellow, and black wires go to in the Goose. and I am assuming the purple-red wires are what they are labeled (THR= Carb-throttle):


I just realized, it seems that the wires on both sides are they same colors and match up.

If you go back a post or two here in this thread (sorry I can't remember-CRS kickin' in) you'll see where TF helped me out here. Seems like there were two wires I had to "dead-end" or simply cap off?

I was under the impression when I started that my 71 wouldn't be the same "plug and play" as earlier years. All I needed to figure out was the purple wire.

I still need to find a tach and something to replace the vacuum gauge with (clock or a vac suitable for gas engines).

Oh yeah, I moved the wiper switch up so it's easier to get to. I plan to do that with the other switches, so I need to find something to put in there. Anyone know where to find good-looking caps to cover them with?

Basketcase, how do your gauges read? I'm noticing that my heat is high, and my oil pressure is low, but these gauges are meant for a diesel. So how would they read in relation to gauges made for a gas engine?

I haven't gotten that far yet, (still haven't fired the "new" engine).

The guy doing my exhaust is pretty knowledgeable about diesel and gas engines. He told me diesel's run slightly hotter because they fire from compression.

Bottom line is that I don't like the fact that the F600 gauges don't give hard numbers on their readings, and I will be looking to swap out the gauges for aftermarket mechanical ones.

Anyone out there tried this? What did you do?

Dude. You're my hero. I just got one of these panels for our '71 and was really dreading that part. Now all I need is the connector for the wiring harness side of things. I have the one that came with the dash, but not the male end that goes to the truck. Anybody got a spare from a '67-'69?

Still trying to find a distributor with a tach drive too. Mine actually came with the tach! But since its a cable drive I need the distributor with the drive. Or find one that looks similar, the stock tach only goes to 4k anyway.
