points eliminator
what did you use to convert your ignition? I have an msd 6al box and msd coil I need something inexpensive that will work with this setup.

Re: points eliminator
iv read on some other posts that you can take the guts out of an electronic distributer housing and they will fit rite in the points housing I do have an electronic distributer from a 460 that I could take parts from, how hard is it to do that?

Not if you don't have the later bottom shaft.

Re: points eliminator
I did that with my distributor. Took a Duraspark (electronic) distributor from a 351/400 and married it with the points distributor from my 390. I don't know about others, if they will work but no problem with mine. I had to change the top portion of the shaft but not the bottom part. It's pain to get the top shaft off of the bottom shaft. Re: points eliminator
I use the pertronix ignitor. I'd love to upgrade to the Ignitor II... With the original if you leave the key on without the engine running it can burn up the module.

I see no reason to put a worn bottom shaft under the top guts of something with less wear. A Dura spark dizzy is just 46 bucks.ForingaMex wrote:I did that with my distributor. Though I love my points eliminator a Duraspark makes more sense as I get new bushings and shaft for better stability. So that is why I am moving that way.

Re: points eliminator
I have had an ignitor for 3 years. I had some problems but I am pretty sure it was the coil and not the ignitor. I now have a flame thrower coil and an Ignitor and it is working fine. I ran full voltage to the ignitor and used the original coil wire with the resistor wire for the coil.

Re: points eliminator
You could still have timing issues if the ignitor was put in a worn dizzy. I had put a rebuilt dizzy i my truck then I put my Accel unit in. I could watch the timing jump as the engine revved up and sometimes it would bounce before I changed dizzys

I was just replying to this statement. I'm just sharing my experience with my own dizzy and it worked without the later bottom shaft (for me). I didn't say anything about using a worn out shaft and I don't see any reason for it either. I just said that it does work. The rest is up to each individual, depending how much $$ he wants to spend and how accurate he wants the timing to be.Not if you don't have the later bottom shaft.

Re: points eliminator
I bring up worn parts to let people know that if they have some problem and think that adding the points eliminator will fix everything that it might not be true. My reason for eliminating the points is I grew up with them and the constant adjusting for wear was a hassle. The last 4 times I pulled my cap was to remove the front bottom float bowl screws.

Don't forget the ~$30 core charge on top of that...Dragon wrote: I see no reason to put a worn bottom shaft under the top guts of something with less wear. A Dura spark dizzy is just 46 bucks.

Re: points eliminator
5 bucks at U Pull and pay 2 core take that one to Autozone and get rebuilt for 46 so 53. Oops Autozone just went up to 48 and down to 20 core. I already have my cores for Duraspark II and wires from U Pull and pay.Thunderfoot wrote:Don't forget the ~$30 core charge on top of that...Dragon wrote: I see no reason to put a worn bottom shaft under the top guts of something with less wear.
