Turn signal switch variations

Post by 390Nut »

Doing some ebay digging, and found some NOS turn signal assemblies for our trucks from eastmarkinc.

I found in the tutorials how the `70 turn signal plugs changed from two on the turn switch harness to just one, but I can't find any info on other differences. Wire colors look the same, but seeing NOS parts on ebay, there was some change mid-year for the turn signal switch assemblys (the replacements come with terminals on the wires, but no plugs) starting with serial #30,001 in `69.

Any ideas what the differences are, besides the plugs? I can't see anything obvious in the pics of the two, but they carry different part #'s for some reason.

the 70-72 i think had two plugs instead of one plug like the 67-69 had only one plug. i am unsure about spade connectors vs. the bullet connectors that i have seen.

Yeah, I know the plugs are different, as I posted above, but the replacement harnesses don't come with the plugs, just the switch with the wires that have the terminals on them, to fit into the plug(s).

Must be some other difference between the two.

I'd bet the replacement having just the terminals is so it can be slid down the colum.

not that i am trying to plug any company, and I know NOS is great...but if you are just looking for a deal on the switch, BOTP has the switch assembly for $34.95!!

you made me think of this. the original ones always seem to break the tabs off. i have had two in my truck and will need a new one for the same reason broken tabs. if the ford ones always break why buy a nos one that will probably break again. i would rather try another company maybe they have fixed the tab breakage problem.

gotta think of it this way...the most likely reason the tabs break is that the plastic is old and brittle...so NOS is going to have that problem as soon as it is installed!!!

let me know if you want the part number from Blue Oval Truck Parts...

Where can I find this serial number on the turn signal switch? I can´t find any number on my old one.
I guess, I need the one before #30,001, because according to my VIN, my bump was built late in 1968 as 1969 model, but I´d like to be sure not to order the wrong one.
Thanks,
Chris

The serial number you need isn't from the turn signal switch, it's from the truck itself....the last 5 digits of your VIN.
