No headlights

Post by RandyP63 »

I rewired my 70 swb with a mint factory harness, everything works except the headlights. I did not have dash lights, but a nos headlight switch worked. Even before I changed the head light switches, I had no headlights, parking lights, turn signals yep.

I have removed the bulbs and put my meter in place, nothing. Any ideas? It is the only wiring issue left.

First thing I would check is that the headlights are grounded. If that checks out, I would unplug the high beam dimmer switch on the floor, turn the headlight switch "On" and check for voltage at the high beam dimmer switch connector. If you have voltage there the floor switch is bad. The headlight switch itself has a built in circuit breaker, sometimes they go bad eventually. How do you know the "NOS" switch worked if the headlights didn't work? An "NOS" switch could be a repackaged defective part. You never know depending on who sold it. Anyway, check the grounds and check the floor switch and let us know what you find.

If you want a thrill , try driving at night and when you push the clutch in,
your fat feet hit the dimmer and your headlights go out.

That'll get your attention.
