Turn signal stays on when key is off

Post by 72texasford »

I am looking to buy a 72 ford pickup and i think the turn signal on the front and back stays on when the key is off. I don't think it is the park lights. He said he just replaced the turn signal switch and the dimmer switch but not the headlight switch. He said it worked fine but then this started. Anybody got any ideals. I am picking up the truck tomorrow and was needing to get it inspected before i drive it home. Just trying to see if i can figure it without making a extra trip. Thanks for any ideals.

That circuit is getting power from some other source than the ignition switch or perhaps the ignition switch was replaced with wrong one or wired incorrectly.

Unfortunately, there is no short cut or quick fix that I can see. You should find a wiring schematic (on this site) and trace every wire starting at the ignition switch thus eliminating components as you go

I bought the truck and when i got it home i took the dash apart and found a wire that had melted it itself to the instrument cluster. After replacing a few wires and the cluster all the lights work like they should. Now on to the alternator setup. Thanks
