How do you ground your steering shaft?

Post by Russell J »

So I was busy installing the horn today into my truck. I got it all put together properly only to find out that my steering column is grounded but the steering shaft is not. The proper functioning of the horn is reliant upon the steering shaft being grounded.

Does anyone know exactly where the connection is that causes the steering shaft to be grounded?

here is one way you can ground it if this is what you are talking about. Notice the ground strap from bottom to top of joint.

Thank you for your suggestion!

Do you know if that's the standard method for grounding the shaft? I'm betting that will work just fine but I'm curious at this point.

So I went about installing the rag joint ground strap today...

After that was finished, I got back in the cab, reinstalled the steering wheel and the horn honked!

Now I can enjoy my new steering wheel and horn ring!
