The computer was cut out, a carb added and the entire A/C system removed when the PO had the motor installed. So it's basically the same as my 71 now.
It wasn't running smooth so I set the timing per the Haynes manual. Ran fine after it finally would start but wouldn't idle very well. So, I talked to my mechanic and explained it to him over the phone. He said it was built so the brain / computer had to tell it when to advance the timing. It doesn't have anything to tell it now so it's only running and starting all at the same timing. It never advances going down the road.

The old points set-up, like in the 71, has the vacuum to advance it. The 85 has nothing. He says there were 2 or 3 years after they came out with elec. ign. where Ford had a distributor on the I6 that had an elec. ign. with a vacuum advance. Does this sound right to anyone ? If so, what year models would that have been ?
I'm gonna give it a try if I can find one. It's either that or go back to a points distributor on it too.
Would there be any reason why it wouldn't work on the 71 also ?
Thanks
