Wire harness interchange.

Post by chad67 »

I have a '67 F100 in dire need of a wire harness. A member may have found one in a '71 in great shape. Will this work or are there changes making this swap impractical or impossible?

I was looking for an article in the tech section that stated (IIRC) that the '67 has one-year-exclusive wiring on the column as well as the gauges, so I would assume that you would have to either splice-in or replace both of those pieces to make it all work. I also remember reading somewhere that if the particular bump you're working on didn't originally come with factory gauges, but idiot lights, then a wiring transplant would be necessary in order to retro-fit the factory gauges in the dash.

...I wish I could find where I read all this stuff to list as reference as well as double-check my facts, but the search function is being moody with me.

Maybe too much technical detail but might help point out some the differences. http://www.fordification.com/tech/schematics_h.htm

There isn't a schematic for '71 which really makes me believe I may be barking up the wrong tree here with this harness. I need the harness because 1)Mine looks like it was repaired by Stevie Wonder with help from Moe and Curly and 2)I am swapping in a cluster with oil and amp gauges. The cluster is from '69 and I have a parts truck that's a '69 so if the '67 stuff is different, I may be able to get around that.

I'll have to go back and look to see if there is dummy lights, or full gauges. Other than that, I don't see why it would not work. Also, you have an F600 cluster, so that should not be of concern. If the plug it's self is different, you can just pull the wires and insert them into the correct plug for your cluster. That's just what I'm thinking.
