Does anyone know how much refrigerant the dealer installed "deluxe" add on AC holds? There is no tag anyplace on the system to indicate, I've heard numbers ranging from 2-3 pounds.
It has the York compressor and the underdash unit looks like this:

Hey mcheath, I have the exact same unit on my '70 Camper Special, and had the same dilemma as you ... I added two pounds of refrigerant (after the appropriate system checks, and evacuation to ensure there weren't any leaks) and watched the refrigerant flow in the dryer's sight glass. After the system cycled a few times, I still had a lot of bubbles indicating a low charge. I ended up adding another half of a pound, which seemed sufficient as the bubbles were replaced by a solid flow of liquid refrigerant. This was three years ago, and I still have a really nice, ice-cool cab! Good Luck!

Great info! 2.5 pounds it is. Tomorrow I'll give it a go and see what happens, I hope that it works out. Where I live is basically like living in a crock pot set on high from May until late Sept or even October. I once recall a Halloween day when it hit 100 degrees, crazy.
