starts and turns off

Hi,
Can anyone help me with this issue or issues?

My 1969 Ford F100 pickup 360, Will Crank and then it will shut right off as soon as I release the ignition switch key. A few times the starter kept on going so I had to disconnect the battery every time. This all started happening when i rewired my ignition switch because the wires were just stripped bare(I thought I put them all back correctly?) Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this for pick up on the ignition switch.
Because of this issue I have replaced the starter, and the solenoid...One thing I have noticed is that every once in a while the solenoid has power on the "I" side when I take the Brown wire off the "I" side it still has power, until I cycle the keys on and off?
I will be replacing the ignition switch tonight. Although I just want to be sure it isn't the wiring.

Here's your diagram. Note on this diagram; that the wires going to the coil pin on the ignition switch are supposed to go to accessory pin, and the wires going to the accessory pin go to the coil pin. For some reason they drew the diagram backwards on this one. Also, if your going to be replacing the ignition switch anyways, I suggest getting one for a '70's truck. They fit the dash the same, but use 1/4" spade terminals instead of the bullet terminals on the '69 switch. This makes rewiring the switch easier. You can also by a new pigtail and plug for the newer style switch.

I'm not sure I follow what you say about the I terminal on the solenoid. The brown wire is supposed to provide 12v to the coil to make starting easier, and is only hot when the ignition is in the start position.

Thank you for the diagram; I have replaced the ignition switch, but the vehicle still starts and dies.
I'm thinking it might be the new solenoid I just bought, because the brown wire "I" does not have any power going to it, or from it with key on. The "S" coming from the solenoid does have power when the ignition switch is turned to the on position.

Your solenoid probably isn't the problem. It's only supposed to start the vehicle, not keep it running. Since it is starting you can move on to other things. Check for continuity between the igntion switch and the positive terminal on the coil with the key in the run position. If you have a multi meter you should see about 8 or 9 volts.
