Electrical condensers

Post by bjde0b »

As far as I know, there are three condensers. One in the distributor, one on the alternator voltage regulator and one on the IPVR. I made one for the alternator regulator by putting a plug on it instead of the pig tail. I am having alternator problems so I don't know if it works or not. I still need one on the IPVR.

Has anyone ever done this before? Can I make one for the IPVR too?

It is surprising that nobody has tried this before.

Just curiuos, why do you want to put a condenser on the IVPR? It's been a while since I've had my dash apart so I can't remember, was there one on the IVPR and is yours missing?

The condensors act as radio noise suppresents and could be removed and the vehicle would still run.

I know it will still run, but the radio isn't clear. I like the old AM. I have a highligner, too, but I want the radio to work in this restored truck.

The IPVR uses one because I have seen it on here and in salvage yards. When I connect the gauges, the radio pops and clicks, when not connected, it does not happen.

I've been behind the dash of many of our bumps over a 30 year period of working on and driving them and also never seen a condenser mounted onto the back of the instrument panel, (or one advertised for sale for that matter)? Not saying there isn't one-but that I've never seen one, (or even seen one drawn into all the wiring diagrams on our bumps I've studies here over the years). :hmm:
Maybe parts monkey over on the dark side knows more about it?

Here's a picture of one that was on my truck. Not sure if it is called a condensor or noise surpresser. I hear these go bad so that probaly explains why they are missing on most bumps and also newer style stereo's have them built in.
