Front running lights on or no with headlights on???

Post by smittyj23 »

I bought my 68 F100 with aftermarket "halo" headlights.

Whenever the headlights are on, the front running/clearance lights are off,but I have rear taillights. Whenever the switch is on just clearance/running lights, the front and rear lights are on.

Are the front clearance/running lights supposed to be on when the headlights are? I've heard different things and would like to know either way factually.

The front lights did not stay on with the headlights until 69 when the DOT mandated it. Prior to that, they were off when the headlights are on. If you want them on when the headlights are on, it is an easy fix with a jumper wire at the back of the headlight switch and it is documented on how to do it here somewhere in the forums (Ive seen it posted before). But nothing on your truck is broken as that is how it was designed to run back then.

Actually the year that was mandated was 1970 I think. I believe that the 69's are wired the same way as a 68 according to the info on here and I am absolutely certain that my 69 is wired that way.

And here is the link to the page for the wiring change to convert it.....http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =8&t=48178

Yup, you are right.. I should have known that as my truck is a 69 and is wired the same way. Thanks for the correction.
