Re: Remote Start
You can pick up a remote start switch for about 15 bucks at AutoZone:

Is that what you need?

Re: Remote Start
I'm guessing so. I just don't understand how it works I guess. It seems too new for the old technology we are all dabblin in! I will give it a try when I am finished with my rebuild and report back.

Re: Remote Start
a remote start on something like an old ford pickup would simply have to be able to send enough voltage to the run circuit(the coil at the same ohms, resistance and pulse or non pulse) to keep it running be hooked to the battery with a fuse inline that would blow before anything melted on you. and would have to be able to cut off when you got in and put in the actual key.
and you'd want one that only tried a few times if i doesn't start within a given interval.
A place that installs them would know real good. also a good one you can buy off the shelf should have real good instructions if they cover any ignition system as ancient as ours.
or lacking good instructions regarding our type of ignaition i'm sure one of our electronics/electrical guys could talk/walk you through making it work right if you show them pics of what you got and instructions for any type of setup should give them an idea what you'd need for it to work. I think Scoche makes a remote start kit, you may try finding thier sight to see if they have pdf files in tech support in case you lost your instructions.
I was wrong Scoche don't make one but amazon.com carries these for 45.00 on sale at the moment.

also avital.com may have soemthing for our trucks or for atleast something close like a 73 and up.
sounds like it attaches to your brake light wires and your ignition wires in ways that let it know if it's safe to remote start, and now i wonder if the remote start on my cougar is in protected valet mode as my lights do the flashing at wierd times and has a remote start system that is missing it's remote.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~
