Making your own wire harness

Post by sandman »

I have a 72 F250 Sport Custom and will be pulling the motor soon to rebuild.

I was wondering if anyone has used the wiring info from this web side and just got the
correct wire gauge and connectors and made your own wire harness or at least maybe just redo the wiring in the engine bay area as needed?

maybe this would be too much work and I should just buy a new harness. Just not looking to spend 300 - 400 dollars for a harness.

Your feed back is appreciated.

Thanks

At least with these you can cut out a large amount of the work and materials and the price is not too bad. http://www.ezwiring.com/wiring_harness.html

:2cents: when your on the side of the road chasing Electrical demons......how much will that cost. :? You could probaly find a good used harness....if yours is that bad. Break it down.......different color wiring+size(or gauge)to duplicate a harness, plus connectors, relays, etc :hmm:
I've had enough and I'm not alone

Thanks everyone.

The more I think about it, the easier the decision is getting. Spend the money and buy a harness.

Mine really isn't that bad. I'm just thinking that it is 40 years old and has been spliced before. Since the engine will be out, it seems like a good time to just replace/update the wiring to new.

Thanks,

Not to hijack but a quick question about this kit....??? Did you have to order the ground kit as well, or is the wiring harness kit pregrounded?

Doing it that way all you would need is a fuse block right? But I know nothing about wiring so I probably couldnt piece that puzzle together lol

I grounded the normal stuff, Rad support, engine to frame, cab and bed, but other than that, the only things I had to ground was the courtesy paint switches, and the fan. Negative ground system and metal body, frame makes it pretty easy. I think that's what you mean.

This is definitely a low buck high quality way to go. My only reservation is time and wire labeling. The wire labeling is not only a life saver during install but down the road as well. The time and headache associated with the assembly was a killer for me. But it definitely is a money saver.
