67 F100 wiring harness problems

Post by davbell22602 »

I'm trying to repair my 67 F100 2wd wiring harness. I think got everything back together except for a few wires. I have 2 cut wires that are red w/black stripe that cant figure out that are cut one near the steering column plug in and the one wire is cut on both ends and not sure where the ends up at. I have another solid red wire thats cut also. I also have a unknown colored spliced to the 70-72 steering column connector that was done by a PO. Its blue w/yellow stripe. I still have to wire up the brake light switch/brake push rod, dome light/door jam switches, and pressure brake valve switch. I was using the diagrams under the tech section but things arent matching up for I have left.

Dav,
Kind of hard to say from here where they could go. Ford had been known to change color mid-year on vehicles. If you can't trace them back to the source maybe try one of these:

SOLD-71 F-350 dually flatbed, 302 / .030 over V-8 with a "baby"C-6, B & M truckshifter, Dana70/4.11 ratio, intermittent wipers, tilt steering, full LED lighting on the flat bed, and no stereo yet (this way I can hear the rattles to diagnose)! SOLD!
Many Ford bumps / one 76' EB / and several dents through the years.
A lot of "oddball" Ford parts collected from working on them for 34 years now!

Have you looked at these? Might want to look at 70's master diagram, I know there are some difference but similar.

I was planning on doing this later but been having wiring issues and may have to lok at it now. How much time have you got invested in the harness so far, thanks.

I saw that diagram too but it doesnt have color chart to reference the wire colors. I have like 8 hours on this already. I just resoldered what i could match up my wire colors.

Some diagrams have the color code some do not here is one that does. You just have to jump around and write them down.

http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... gauges.jpg

Heres another one

If you look at the first diagran 284 is the code for a red wire it goes to the stop switch by the brake petal. I know its from a 70's truck but I found there are few differences. I do know the voltage regulator on the 70's and 67 truck has a slight difference.

If you look at first diagram again red/blk. strip is code 13 it connects to the yellow 4 prong connector. At the the connector 13a (same color) contines on from there.

Just remembered I have a 67 wiring harness I picked up at the junkyard to fix my harness. It's late so I will look at it tomorrow and see if can help.

Still having a few issues with the wiring harness.

Where does the red black wire go to thats on the plug for the brake switch? Where does the green wire go thats on the brake pressure diff. valve thats on the inner fender? Where does the black wire thats coming off the instrument cluster plug in goes?

Also what is this for? It has 2 wires on it. one black w/red and black w/orange on it.

the green wire off the brake pressure switch goes through the ignition switch to the brake light on the dash

the red\black wire from the brake switch (on the pedal) goes to the turnsignal switch.

Which wires are they joined/soldered together with since there isnt enough terminals for each individual wire?

The green wire goes from the brake pressure warning switch to the ignition switch (and back out like a Y), to the light on the dash. it remains the same green color the whole way. You have to remember the brake pressure switch (and light circuits in general) is just a loop : ground > switch > wire > ignition (aka 12v power) > light bulb > ground ...if the switch looses pressure, it grounds out, completes the ciruit and lights the light.

The red\black wire goes from the brake switch (on the pedal) to the turn signal harness, there it splits (like a Y ) ..the end that comes out of the same side then goes on to the emergency flasher switch. It also remains the same color throughout.

like this:

Brake switch Emer-Flasher switch

plug

Turn Signal
