Do I Have the Correct Part?

Post by IFHP »

I hope someone can help me with a situation. My 1972 F-100 has one turn signal out and the opposite brake light out – bulbs and fuses are okay so I am told it most likely is the switch in the column. I ordered a replacement part from LMC Truck (#47-0754). I asked for a switch for my ’72, but the box says it is for 1965 to 69 trucks. The person I talked to at LMC implied that this is the correct part for my truck (but the invoice says it is my responsibility to know if it the right part or not). I am not doing the work myself, I’ll be taking the truck to a local garage so I don’t want them wasting time with the wrong part. What do forum members think? Do I have the right part? Thank you.

I went on LMC's site and read the catalog page that shows your part # 47-0754 and according to LMC's catalog description, it IS the correct part for your application.

Keep in mind that I have NO first hand experience with LMC, this part and no personal idea if it is "In Fact" correct or not.

I'm just adding another pair of eyes in reading LMC's catalog page along with you.

Sorry I'm not helping you more than I am....

Be wary of parts shipments from LMC. They are notorious of sending the wrong part and, in my case, extra parts when I order more than one item. I mean, some shipments had extra lense gaskets, pedal pads, and lenses. It is odd in this day and age where the company's bottom line matters so much that they don't have better inventory control. Personally, I prefer National Parts Depot over LMC.

I've heard good things about Shee-Mar switches. http://www.shee-mar.com/parts.html

Thanks everybody. Do people think that the trun signal switch for a '69 wouod be the same as a '72? Too bad that the LMC informtion is inconsistent between the catalog and the part box.

NPD lists two different switches, (page-162). I'm not 100% sure but I believe the switch might be different. I do know that the harness for the switch changed somewhere in the years of the bump, but can't remember which years it did. The "newer" 71' that I have has one socket for the harness-where the earlier trucks had one socket with two wires in it and a second socket to hook up the wiring to the switch.
Far too...many things like this left to memory when the search engine here won't work, sorry I couldn't help more. :(

While I'm not sure if the TS switch is different or not, I know the wiring harness, that exits the bottom of the steering column, is. I believe the change occurred in mid model 1969. DC lists theirs as '65-'69 (Before Serial #g30001)and '69 (from Serial #g30001)-'72. Pssst...I trust DC more than those other vendors.

Wow guys, you have been a great help. I think it is pretty clear that this is not the right part. Now to see if LMC will refund (I'm a little doubtful based on the disclaimers on the invoice).

I bought a NOS switch from my local ford dealer just a few months back and it was only a couple of dollars more than a aftermarket. I have found some aftermarket switches use different wire colors and can be a real pain. Just my :2cents:
