Another F600 gauge question

Post by Zukinut »

Ive spent the past 4 hours (literally) searching, reading, studying this subject and have found alot of chatting and a bit of hearsay but not much solid tech.

My question is simple. Can you use an F600 dash on a truck that had idiot lights from the factory. I know that the ammeter wiring is different of course due to the shunt. I dont particularly care to have an amp gauge anyway. But if you change the sending unit for temp and oil can you use the idiot light wiring? If not, can you make something work or is it really a "change the whole harness" kind of mod.

Im exceptionally good at electrical, so soldering, and reading schematics comes easy, but if its truely gonna be that hard to do, ill just use aftermarket gauges with corresponding senders.

I believe this post will also help others asking this question so i went ahead and posted it.

Did a little more research and I see that its just not worth the trouble. With that said. What do I do with the idiot lights, when I go to aftermarket gauges? Can I just unplug and at both dash and sending unit or ?

Thanks again

I plumbed in fitting to make a "T " at the oil pressure switch on the engine, used a mechanical pressure gauge and line. For the electrical gauge, I like voltmeters. Gauges are independant of instrument cluster wiring, and idiot lights work as normal.
