How do you replace a 1972 p/u turn signal switch?

Post by falcon »

I am going to replace my turn signal switch on my 72 p/u . I started in by removing the steering wheel and removed the metal washer over the switch itself. Now before I go to cut the wires so i can plug the new ones in, is there anything else that I need to take out, replace other than the switch itself. I heard something about a bushing. I got my replacement switch from LMC and it has a diagram of which wires to match up with the OEM wires. Thanks for any advice.

You have got it going your way. Check your upper bearing in the column make sure you have no slop, but you probably would have caught that by sloppy wheel/steering. Another thing i find that makes it better is tie something to the wires as they get pulled out of the column tube so you can pull the new ones back in easily just to take away a little headache. Here is the picture of my upper column bearing and retainer.
