Replacing flasher can
OK, my turn signals do not blink. I assume it is the flasher can on the back of the instrument panel but I don't know how to remove it. I was going to swap in a new one once before but it is very solidly attached to the instrument panel. I cannot figure it out. I got frustrated before and just put the instrument panel back in. I have searched the forums but cannot find the secret.
How do you remove it?

Re: Replacing flasher can
On your 69, does it have the metal instrument cluster body? Speculation, but it may be stuck from galvanic corrosion. Happens when 2 disimilar metals react to each other, might be corroded in there. Will likely need to take instrument cluster assembly completely out to repair. If it's really stuck in there, leave it and plug a new flasher can into the connector, and find a suitable place to tuck it out of the way under the dash.
I used to leave mine dangling within easy reach...if it acted up, a flick with the fingers would jolt it into working again.

Re: Replacing flasher can
It's almost like it is riveted onto the instrument panel (which is metal). I have tugged and pried and can't figure out how to remove and replace it.

My blinkers come on but don't blink. I assume it's that flasher.

Yup. indicator light stays on? Likely the flasher. Are you able to remove the connector off the flasher?

Re: Replacing flasher can
91Bear, my truck is also a '69, (F100) and my flasher is in a "C" clip on the fwd side of the dash support structure. Easily removable.
You can see it at the right side of this picture, this is looking straight up. Yours is located differently than this?

Re: Replacing flasher can
Before you pull, I would recommend getting a canister type flasher and plugging it in to make sure that is your problem. In my 67 I had the large box type flasher that is screwed in the the frame behind the dash, I replaced it with a canister similar to the one in the pic and left the other one in place. IIRC the plug was the same. My box flasher was working, but it flashed slow and very loud.

Re: Replacing flasher can
tylerb, I believe that is the other flasher can for the hazard lights. The flasher for the turn signals is behind the instrument panel - for maximum inconvenience!tylerb43 wrote:91Bear, my truck is also a '69, (F100) and my flasher is in a "C" clip on the fwd side of the dash support structure. Re: Replacing flasher can
I got mine off another cluster... I don't think they make them that way anymore, but I could be wrong.

Re: Replacing flasher can
I recently replaced both flasher cans on "Rusty" and I just loosely zip tied it to the cluster harness.
The other flasher was a box also but I converted it to a round can also.
I got a used flasher clip from Tom at Flashback to attach it to the column support.
