purple 098 wire fix

Post by newb70f250camper »

I accidently fried the purple 098 resistor wire on my 1970 pickup and now my gauges "fuel, temp, oil" do not work. How do i fix it? Can I buy a resistor wire that will work? The only one that I have found is the pink resistor wire for the ignition. Will it work and how do I Connect it on the ignition switch and on the other end. I feel dumb asking how to connect but it is also connected to a regular stranded wire on both sides with push on connector on ignition side and a four way connector on the other side.please help :help:

I don't see a wire numbered "098" in the 70 master wiring diagram. :hmm:

Not to say it's not there though. How about the IPVR, have you checked the voltage coming out of it?
Maybe Shayne or someone else can pipe in here that knows a little more about it.

I see the wire now, and sorry I can't help. I thought these guys might have it-but a search there didn't kick anything back: http://order.waytekwire.com/CGI-BIN/LAN ... 32+M50+ENG
I'm not really sure if you could just re-wire and solder in an inline resistor to do the same thing as the existing resistor wiring or not? Maybe TF or someone else with a little more knowledge on it will chime in here.

You have fired more then just the purple wire as that "purple wire" has no connection with your fuel, temp and oil gauges... The purple wire is just the exciter wire to tell the alternator to start charging, no connection with those gauges... that wire 297 does go to the gauge power wire 30, the windshield wiper power 763 and also to the fuse box to power it 297B.

If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...

If you can't find one sent me your address and I will send you the one off my old harness. On my old 70 harness I had a purple resistor wire that goes straight into the the connector for gauge cluster plug, is that the one you need?
