390 engine! I just installed duraspark and it was kind of hard starting this morning. When I got done with lunch it wouldn't start at all. All that's happening when I turn the key Ican hear the solenoid make noise and the negative side of the battery cable gets really hot and smokes. Ok so the solinoid was clicking so I switched it out with a different one I had in my tool box and that one made a mmmm noise. The starter isn't even turning the engine at all, so do you think I fried it and have to replace it. Are there any tests I can do? I'm thinking the timing was off is what caused this.
One other thing this morning it was more like a grinding start then starts, any info would be great thanks

Re: Starter issue
the negative cable is bad or loose. or maybe the ground from engine to firewall is loose or came off. buzzing of the solenoid menas theres not enough power going through the solenoid to the starter.

Re: Starter issue
I found the starter wire was stuck to the header and was grounding out. So replaced the wire and the problem was solved. Started right up after that. thank you fordman!
