AC Dryer?

Post by atcaw94 »

I can get a really good deal on a Classic Auto A/C unit for my 68 but the guy says it needs the dryer. Is there a specific one I would need? What are the options?
It would be really nice to have A/C ;)
Thanks

I would contact Classic Auto to see if they have a replacement one for the paticular unit you are looking at. If not you should be able to get a generic dryer to adapt to your setup.

:yt: Dryers are a pretty common thing, anytime the A/C lines are opened they should be replaced (they are in part the filter of the system). You can get them at the parts stores. As Fireguy stated check with the manufacture on what they recommend.

They can be different both in physical shape and piping hookup configuration though. The factory compression type fittings on the OEM Ford driers might be hard to duplicate? Most of the factory OEM driers on our Ford 70's trucks were mounted in between the radiator support and front grill I believe. You also want to make sure a new drier you get has not been opened to the atmosphere for any amount of time.

I've got a brand new one here somewhere, (Ford part-not aftermarket) I'd gotten for my 79 before i parted the truck out.

the dealer air had the dryer usually mounted on the inner fender. so with the classic air unit you may be able to do that. did you ask classic air about the correct dryer yet?

No, I actually won't pick the unit up until tomorrow. I'll let you guys know the deal when I get it. It's pretty sweet, it's not the hang under the dash unit.
