86 or later truck alternator
I've got a chance to get an alternator from a junk 351w that was in a 3/4 ton p/u. are these internally regulated? The motor is roughly an 86 or up motor with a ton of pollution junk and a four barrel. If it is internal regulated it appears to mount the same as the original on my 360. Its got one plug with three wires that come out of it. It looks like this would be the plug the one I can get has on the back. Also if anyone knows where to find some pics of stock mounting of alternator on a 352 that would be neat. I don't know where the lower adjusting braket bolts to. It looks like it should go where the timing indicator thing is bolted to the timing cover.

Re: 86 or later truck alternator
Don't have pictures, but the alternator bracket bolts to the water pump on raised bosses inboard and into a threaded hole in the FE's block, just below the cylinder head, outboard. The mounting is forward of the timing pointer.
That alternator is internally regulated.
That alternator is internally regulated.

Re: 86 or later truck alternator
That looks like a 2G alternator and from what I've read is that they are not very desirable and account of that the wire plug has a tendency to overheat and melt. Like a lot of others, I have put the 3G alternator on my 72 390 and I'm very happy with it. It is an excellent upgrade because the 3G has the big wire bolted on instead of plugged in. Just my 2 cents.

Re: 86 or later truck alternator
Thanks for the input. I'll try it even though the 3G is better, 'cause I can get this one for $10 bucks with the plug.
