Cummins Conversion Disapointment

Post by 69FLATBED »

Well I had to call and put my order on hold at FordCummins last week for the conversion on my 2000 F350. My Kenworth was down with a bad ECM on a CAT motor and it ended up costing over 2 grand to fix so there went my money for doing the swap. Not to mention business is slow already so who knows when i'll have the money to do it again.I have already bought the motor, it is a 24V out of a 2000 3500 dually,I guess it can collect dust in the shop until then.Has anyone else on the site done this conversion on a Superduty before?

Yeah, Fordcummins parts are junk. I would say go with a 12 valve, easier install, better fit, and a much better motor than the 98-02 24V. X100 if you have a 53 block.

I wanted to go with Destroked, but when i called some dumb a@$ girl answered, when i asked if there was someone there who could answer my questions she said sure I can do it.Well all i got out of her was i think you can do that. Well I don't want anyone to think when i'm going to spend about 3 grand with them. I just got arrravated and hung up the phone. Averagef250 i got a good deal on the 24V and no it is not a 53 block or I wouldn't have bought it,I gave 1,200 bucks for it i figure i could get my money back out of it pretty easy if i need to.But i would have rather have a 12V.

Thanks for the input Dustin, I have another 12 valve I can buy from a buddy of mine in a 96 dodge 4x4.Sounds like i need to put this 24 0n CL and get my money back out of it and go that route,I'll admit I was a little sceptical about using the 24 vs the 12, thanks for chiming in you probably saved me a big PITA in the future. I was gonne buy this truck from him to do my bump conversion later on but i think I'll sell this 24 and go ahead and buy it. I see you have three of these in your collection any more input is appreciated! :D Thanks.

the cummins are far superior to the ford engines. The 7.3 was the best diesel they ever made and are great engines but they will not tow or last like the cummins. I spent about $3000 on extras for my 2000 powerstroke and it ran great and thought it was the cream of the crop. I them got a stock 2005 3500 and it ran circles around my ford. I love fords but my silver truck has a 4bt in it and love it. If I had it to do over again I would go with the 12valve though.

I guess I never looked at them. Had a 96 Dodge witha Cumming that blew three motors before it made it to 150k. Have a 99 F350 with 534k and hasen't needed anything other than a clutch. Still pulls a 12k horse trailer without a problem. If the 12v works better than that then maybe I need to look into one.

You were doing it wrong with the Cummins.

Just that RTG_RACING was obviously doing something wrong if he somehow managed to kill 3 6BTs.
