Reverse lights position sensor?
Sup guys, I have 69 F250, 390, I have a reverse light question. When I have my tranny in reverse I don't have any back up lights. But, When I slide my Automatic selector lever that's on the steering column halfway in between Reverse and neutral they come on. so, I think its a position sensor? But I don't have any idea about where to look or what to adjust? Any advise? Thanks, Jonathon.

No, I dont have to hold the selector in any position for the truck to start.mljjones67 wrote:I think you need to adjust the position of the sensor. Do you have to hold the shifter up to get it to start? I am not sure if the park safety switch runs the reverse lights also. Some one will pipe in with answer.!

Jonathon, I may be suffering from CRS but I thought your truck had a 4 speed not an auto.

I think it did new, however it has been converted to a 3 speed auto, c6. Trust me, im not the happiest camper about it. But what can I say, she is one of the cleanest 69's I have ever seen.AlleyCat wrote:Jonathon, I may be suffering from CRS but I thought your truck had a 4 speed not an auto.

The back up lights are controlled by the neutral safety switch, located at the bottom of the steering column, on the top side.
Loosen the two screws holding the switch to the column. Place the tranny in reverse, (engine off and wheels blocked), adjust the position of the switch until the reverse lights come on. Tighen the screws, and check for proper operation of the switch.

Hey Flyboy, Thanks for the info it was just what I was looking for. But my only question is, is it really that easy? I hope so. From a scale of 1-10, 10 being the hardest what skill level am I looking at? Thanks again bro, you are the man!flyboy2610 wrote:The back up lights are controlled by the neutral safety switch, located at the bottom of the steering column, on the top side.

It's that easy unless you have the switch that is mounted on the transmission itself rather than the steering column
