Will these seats fit a bump?

Post by uboughtwhat? »

I went to the junkyard today looking for a seat. I found a really nice split bench seat in a 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis. Has anyone tried to put a seat like this in their truck?

Any seat could be installed, but none will be a bolt-in. It's going to require you to fabricate mounting brackets. However, any Ford truck seat up through '96 will be a bolt-in using your existing bracketry. Take a look at this page:

OK, well now here comes the challenge...I found a perfect bench seat with the center armrest in a charcoal gray color.....it came out of a 98 F-150. Has anyone fabbed the brackets to make this work or should I take pictures along the way to make a new tech page topic?

Thanks,

Jeff

Sorry to hijack, but Jeff, I agree, drive F-150 daily (2000) and the split buckets with fold down console are very comfortable and durable.

the brackets on ford seats arent all that different fromyear to year so it wouldnt be all that hard to make any ford truck seat fit into another ford truck. imo.

Any ford truck seat up to 96 will bolt in mith minor drilling just like keith said. it just a matter of lining up the bolts to the new rails on the seat and drilling a hole. and stickin a nut on it.

Didnt I see an article somewhere on this as to someone doing it and posting pics of the switchover? I just picked up on a seat out of a 95 Eddiebauer truck for my 72 for $50 and they pulled it for me no damage either and its a light brown tooboot with the arm rest cup holder and the lumbar airbags  and tech article would be a nice reference to check out.

check out my website. I did the hard way and used the 94 tracks and it still only took me an hour to do.

So you only had to bend the passenger side bracket to clear the tank correct? Can the seat adjustments and handle be retro fitted to the existing mounts off the newer brackets ie cable, handle, cable springs etc. to our older mounts.

You have to bend both sides as the seat is in the center of the truck.

The only part that is not off the new seat in the actual mount. The tracks, springs, cable, etc...is all from the new seat.

im confused by your last post I wanted to know if the seat adjustment on the new seat stays with the new seat even tho im using the old tracks ,,, I havent taken a good look at this yet on the new one so I was pre asking this before I investigate it further for install. I would like to keep the new adjustment lever and cable with the new donor in lue of using the old truck type adjustment that comes out towards the drivers door.

There are 3 main parts to the ford betch seats.

The bench (Frame, Springs, Cover.)
The tracks (Allow forward and back adjustment)
and the Mounts (these are riveted onto the tracks <PICTURE>)

So did I. That is why I drilled out the rivets and bolted the Newer tracks onto the Old mounts.
<PICTURE>

Here is the page on my site <HERE>

I like the newer tracks better, they have a better engagement design that feals a lot tighter than the old style.

Ryan,

That's good news, (cause your truck would definitely pay you back for the chebby parts). :D

Seat upgrade will be in my future as well.
