tire size

Post by kwfast »

In the next few weeks, I will be retrieving a "barn fresh" 1970 F100 - 55,000 original miles, 2 owners, been parked for the last 7-8 years. Truck is about as basic as they come, 240-6, 3 speed manual.

My question: the truck needs tires to even get it out of the barn. It currently has L78-15s on it. I'm planning on using the original wheels. What size(s) of tire would be appropriate?

Thanks,

Ken.

L78-15's were 29" tires . . . 235/75-15's will work.

255-70 look just about right to me. just a little wider than stock. I would go with the 235's if you're going to retain the manual steering. :)

Since the tire question is already answered, I'll ignore it and ask you to document your truck's journey from barn to pavement. Let's see some photos.

...and by the way, welcome to the forums, kwfast!

I second jor's motion about photo documentation. Trust me, you'll be sorry if you don't start taking a LOT of "before" pics.

I was thinking the 235-75 would be the way to go, thanks for the input. I'll be sure to document things as they go. look for a progress report hopefully sometime in October.
