hotrodrigue, my guy came back and said there is not one of those available anywhere.

I would think you now have two choices:

1) Call DC and see if that solenoid will work for your truck, or

2) try to find someplace to have that one rebuilt.

I called a local armature place and they can't rebuild it.

Dennis Carpenter sent me to http://www.greensalescompany.com, and they dont' have it either.

I've searched Ebay and I found http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NOS-Ford ... ccessories
Do you think that one would work?

Does anyone have contacts on who rebuilds this type of thing?

Any other ideas?

Before you spend that kind of money, try this: http://jpintoweb.com/

Just called and he asked that I send it to this P.O. Box:
jpinto
P.O. Box 63532
Phili PA
19147

In the package, he wants me to include:
email address
phone number
mail address

He said that he can turn it around in two days and have it back quickly. Cost will be an average of around $200 depending on what needs to be done. The price could run up to $350.

So, now all I have to do is contact the truck's owner and see what he says. I will let ya'll know.

Can someone tell me the difference between the A prefix and the C prefix at the end of the solenoid part number?

I found another on ebay, but it's a "C" prefix:

8A-6916-C

The Ford parts manual doesn't show an overdrive for '71, even though I know it was available. Maybe I'm just overlooking something in the parts manual, but I can find the overdrive listed from 64-68, so I don't think it's my mistake, maybe just an error in the catalog.

It lists two different solenoids, according to the tranny part number.

B6TA 6916-A used with C5TA 7003-C transmission (used through '67)
C8TA 6916-A used with C8TA 7007-AM, AS transmissions (shown for '68, and is most likely the one you have)

The "C" designation should only be an updated part number, but it could be a totally different part.

If the tag is still on the transmission, get the transmission part number and compare to the numbers above. If the tag is gone, there's really no good way to determine which tranny you have.

Is there a part number anywhere on the solenoid?

Sorry...I think I edited this reply like 10 times cause I kept thinking of pics to add.

Yes...there is a part number on the solenoid......AR11-62C 12V Manufactured by RBM controls.

The tag on the tranny reads: C8T3AS-1

Oh and my mistake, this is a T89 tranny.

and.....here is a high res photo of the tranny/overdrive when I had it off the truck. Click to enlarge.

Here is a high res photo of the case of the solenoid. Click to enlarge.

And....a side view high res photo of the solenoid. Click to enlarge.

one more pic. Obviously, I'm a picture fanatic :fr: :woohoo:

I'm sending the solenoid to Jpinto for a rebuild.

There is just too many different model numbers and these things are way to expensive to take a chance on the wrong part without being able to physically compare them before purchasing.

I will post up the result and price when it returns.

Thank you all for your help....Robbie

Probably your best alternative.

Just an FYI to everyone. ALL Borg-Warner OD solenoids interchange. . . . .
Ford, Chevy, Mopar, Rambler. . . .

The Main diference is the voltage. 6V or 12V.
After that it is the STYLE of connectors. Some applications have wires with male/female plugs others (GM mostly) have ring connectors that are held against the solenoid by a screw.

They rarely go bad. I have some laying around here but didnt see this thread till today.

I did a write up on OD transmissions in this post. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... ve#p385511

Well M-Man....you seem like someone I need to talk to with your experience.

I received the solenoid yesterday, put it on the bench and applied 12v to it. The plunger did not move. I tugged slightly on it by hand and it engaged. I called JPinto and he told me that it is supposed to operate like this. He said that I need to adjust the cable to be pulling slightly on the plunger when it's bolted in place. Is this right? This doesn't seem right to me.

I will check to see if the cable adjustment controls how the plunger sits in there but I don't think it does.

JPinto charged me $307 for the rebuild :o
