All amp meters need a shunt. The after market meters usually have a shunt built into the meter. The stock Ford meter in our trucks have the shunt built into the wires that come from the engine and through the firewall. Each wire has it's own shunt.
The meter will not work if there are two shunts. Most likely you will need to bypass the stock Ford shunted wires and run your own wires.

Please post the manufacture and model of the meter you got so we can look for more info on it.

They do make a LOT of amp meters that are direct power, all the power for the whole vehicle has to go through it and don't use a shunt.

Haha. Yeah, I know the feeling all to well. I think I got a touch of ADD too. (Attention Deficit Disorder). But lets stick to one thing and take it step by step.

And that seems like a good first step.

Step two will be to scan or type in the manufacturers install instructions.

Do those things and then we will figure out what to do next.
