Need help wiring ‘71 460 in a ‘79 f100

Post by 460f100lwb »

Please help. I’m not good at wiring, so I will need specifics if you can help. I swapped the 460 engine/trans out of a ‘71 Lincoln Continental and dropped them in a ‘79 F100. I can’t get the engine to run right. I’m pretty sure I didn’t wire something correctly. Can someone walk through how to wire this engine to the ‘79 chassis? Do I use all the existing ignition boxes and components in the engine bay of the ‘79, or does the ‘71 motor not need these? The ‘71 460 still has a points distributor.

Unless I'm missing something here, the '79 is electronic ignition and '71 is the original points distributor? Apples and oranges. You can't wire an electronic ignition to a points distributor. Either swap distributors too or don't hook up the electronic ignition.

Thanks, and that makes sense. I would need help with how to actually bypass the ‘79 ignition boxes/components when using the points distributor. Basically, a step by step with what wires go where is what I need. Have you done a swap like this before? Thanks
