By red square, you don't mean the brake light in the left hand corner of the dash, do you? There is a voltage regulator on the back of the instrument cluster that could be your culprit. I am gathering everything else works in the cab - dome light, head lights, tail lights, etc. just not your gauges and your instrument panel backlights?

That red square light is your Hi Beam headlight indicator. When it is lit, your headlight hi beams are on.

A little light required to pass vehicle inspections in Texas.

On the back of you gauge cluster is a voltage regulator for your gauges. It may be bad. They may be different looking for the printed circuit board trucks. But I don't think this is your problem as the lights don't work. also make sure the plug in for the gauges is totally engaged I've had this problem before and some stuff didn't work. What year is your truck maybe you have a bad circuit board. (67-69 wire harness like pictured)( 70-72 circuit board).

Also make sure everything is grounded. Do you have a ground wire from the back of the engine to the firewall. You probably already checked this but make sure your fuses are good

Its a 1970 f100 but it has a 1971 72 quage set that has the same board as my original so the olug is a perfect match

You need a decent voltmeter and the wiring diagram from the main site's tech section. Take the cluster out and check the plug for voltages where they need to be for the lights to work.
