Aftermarket power door lock and window recommendations

Post by Canonman67 »

I've found several of the cheap ones on ebay, locks around $25 and windows around $100, even some kits with both for under $100, yes I know you get what you pay for. BUT for the most part they all look the same as the more expensive ones. For windows I've seen the same style that goes around the crank stub run from $55 to $200, the only difference being the $200 ones advertise Bosch motors. Has anyone used any of these kits? Do they work okay? Do you think they'll hold up? I'm looking for actual experience with this style window kit. http://www.autoloc.com/catalog/Power-Wi ... d-Switches I have found a few reviews online which favor the Spaal line over AutoLoc and the prices are in the same neighborhood. Just to be clear I'm not interested in a system that replaces my existing regulators etc with a fully integrated system. Yes I know they'll work better but power windows aren't high enough on the priority list to rate a $300 to $500 investment. But having the convience for around $100 in attractive. Remote power door locks on the other hand I'm willing to shell out a bit more money for something proven to last. :fr:

Autoloc is a crappy company with crappy products and customer service is horrendous or non-existent. Been there, done that.

Go with a better company like Haneline or Electric-Life for power windows.

Here's my plan http://fordification.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=72410 (Thanks, phantomtruck!) I've already scored an extra set of regulators so I don't mess up my originals.

Yeah I've read the reviews on Autoloc and they're not pretty. I was going to use that type of aftermarket system though. Like I said it's more of a whim than a necessity at this point. Using old Ford parts is appealing though my welding skills are a bit lacking. Checking PicnPull looks like it's in the ball park on the price too. I've bookmarked that one, thanks sargentrs.

I put the SPAL kit in my crew cab on all 4 windows and am very happy with it. Plenty of power to work our heavy windows and regulators. You can see my install in my build thread: http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... &start=240

And on a side note... DO NOT go cheap on the door lock system. The first kit I bought was crap and did not have enough power to lock or unlock our doors. I ended up trashing that whole system and went with the MES kit which work great: https://www.a1electric.com/mes.htm
It was a big waste of time and money, when I was just trying to save a few bucks initially. Spend more for a quality system the first time and you will save money in the long run.

Thanks Calfdemon, I WAS looking at buying the Avital lock controller and some cheap solenoids on ebay. But I was concerned about the solenoids and how well they'd work/last. So I think I'll just learn from your experience and do it right the first time. It's great to have seen how you installed the Spals and to see that another member here has used the same kit. I've bookmarked the link you've given me so I can go back to it. Happily I only have two doors to deal with. I am so jealous of the progress on your crew, it seems like years since I tore down the F100 though it's only been six months. Love the paint, wish this round would stretch to a finished truck but I'll be leaving the exterior for later.
