Peltier tiles
Has anyone thought about using Peltier tiles and eliminating the alternator? No alternator would clean up the front of the engine plus you would have no moving parts. The minor hp gain. A voltage regulator would need to be incorporated that would just create an open in the circuit.

A more fun project would be hydrogen on demand or ethanol fuel. Maybe incorporate hydrogen on demand with a Peltier Tile device.

I am not talking about heating or cooling a vehicle. Peltier tiles generate electricity when there is a temperature differential no greater than 160° with a maximum temperature of 300°. A 1.5" x1.5" tile can produce up to 20 watts. Given normal operating temperature of 200° for an engine it is within the maximum limit.
Attach 2 or 3 to the intake manifold, given 66% of maximum heat we could safely assume maximum output at 66% or 13 watts per tile. If we assume ambient temperature of 100° under the hood we would reduce output by approximately 33%.
This would leave an output of roughly 9 watts per tile. Tiles run $10 each. The only portion I don't know is lifespan of the tiles.
