Wiring harness kits

Post by rco630 »

Has anyone done a complete rewire of their truck using a complete harness kit? if so, what did you use and how well did you like it?

I haven't installed it yet but I got the EZ Wiring 21 circuit kit http://www.ezwiring.com/wiring_harness.html from a member here. It's appears to be a good quality kit and the wiring is clearly labeled about every foot. It comes with GM connectors and a bunch of generic connectors but I'll splice in my original plugs where actually needed. I'll be doing a lot of custom and aftermarket electrical so I expect to a lot of custom connection anyway. Several members have installed them and I haven't heard any negative comments to speak of. For the price it can't be beat.

:yt: I bought the same kit. I also have not installed it yet, but it looks pretty good and is clearly marked. I am also going to doing quite a bit of custom wiring and will be splicing in my ford connections as well. I just could not justify the cost of the Painless kit with the Ford connectors as the Painless kit is over twice as much money. The EZ Wiring kit is a good price and everyone that has installed it says good things.

I understand the "best" kit out there with factory Ford connectors is Centech: http://www.centechwire.com/Ford-Wiring- ... -K-40F.htm

Excerpt;

"Our K-40F is a custom wiring kit designed especially for 1960-and-newer Ford applications using FoMoCo switches and accessories. Our kits utilize the time-saving and easy-to-follow "point-to-point" system in which wires are run from the fuse panel directly to their marked destinations. For further simplicity, all wires are color-coded and labeled along their length, and, for safety, are a high-temperature "cross-link" type. In most cases, the correct electrical connectors are pre-installed on the harness to prevent errors and to speed installation...."

Thanks for the input, i agree that the centech harness looks to be the best for the money seeing as though it comes with most of the proper connectors. i still have a little time before i need to purchase the harness because my truck is completely disassembled and in the middle of a complete resto.

a little dated response, but does anyone have experience with the Centech or Painless wiring harnesses specific to our truck models? Not fond of the thought of spending $650 or so for the Painless. It looks like the Centech is about $450. Like the OP, I have some time before I need such, but between what is under the hood and under the dash and along the frame, there is a need for updated wiring on my truck.
