Seatbelt Question

Post by qman »

Just installed a sweet seat out of a 90 and into my 72. Check it out below.

This site helped me figure out what and how to put that seat in. What I'd like to know is this. Like the seats that swap right in with a miniscule of work, are there seat belts from certain years that do the same? I took a long look at the belts in the UP&P so I thnk the answer is NO but I figured it can't hurt to ask.

Ya, I know I can buy aftermarkets from LMC so no need to answer with that.

what you are looking for in the pull-a-part is a belt that has the retractor mounted on the floor, and only needs 2 mounting points: the floor and the upper mounting point for the 3 point.

The only good one i could find was a Dodge D-something ram from early 80s.... the problem was that the spot-welded nut inside the column broke off when i tried to remove it and spun inside the sheet metal. The belting was also pretty ragged. I found it was best to bring a cordless drill, a 1/8" drill bit and a 3/8" drill bit and actually drill the heads out of the bolts.

the Chevy vans from the 80's have the right arrangement, but the upper bolt point is way high so they have a goofy turnbuckle thing that puts the 3'rd point at armpit level in the ford truck. they also have a mongo retracter that you couldn't fit in a truck with the cab tank.

This is what i ended up doing. It looks and works awesome. If you are a purist about keeping things stock... well shoot you probably wouldn't have chosen that seat if you were a purist, right?

Qman did the seat bolt right in or did you have to make it fit?
I think the seatbelts from the 79s will work.

hey motzingg . . . nice job on the seatbelts. Any chance you can explain how you mounted the retractor. I can see from your pics that you cut a big ole hole in the pillar but why?

And how did you attach the retractor to that hole? I couldn't quite tell from your pic.

youngin . . . the seat "almost" bolts right in. You have to re-use your seat rails. Luckily, they "almost" swap right over. I had to drill out the threading on a welded nut somewhere but that was it. It literally took 10 minutes to swap the rails.
