100+amp alternator on 351w

Post by thereverend »

71 f-100 w 351W w a/c. Old alt. has some miles and I would like to upgrade. I saw something about the 3G 130amp units and 1wire or 2 wire. Can someone please give me some insight on the procedure, soup to nuts. Wiring, pulley, bracket? I'm really dumb, keep that in mind. The existing alt. would be at about 10 o'clock looking at the front of the block.
Thanks guys!

Have you read this? http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =8&t=13062 The challenge is going to be brackets. What vintage 351W? I'm putting an '86 model 351W in mine and swapping over to the serpentine belt drive. Took all the brackets and such from a late 80's Explorer in a junk yard.

I just went with this -> http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pwm-8-47141/overview/ so we'll see. I don't really care about the idiot light, I just want good performance. Thanks for the reply.

And yet, you ordered something that you must wait to have shipped.

Hey guys, I know what ya'll are saying, was just being an ass. But seriously, given the alt. I have chosen http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pwm-8-47141/overview/ I am under the impression I just tie up the factory harness and run 1 6ga wire to the pos battery post. Is that correct (per summit tech support)? If I hook it up this way will there be a problem w my choke (7.5v v ? as referenced in article http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/88224 ... tures.html)? Any info would be helpful

Thanks

I appreciate your sense of humor.

still not a bad deal for a good alternator, if you make more than like 20 dollars an hour, you're probably ahead working overtime on a saturday, than spending 5 hours at the junkyard, [censored] around with shims or whatever and trying to get the 3G installed.

cool let us know how it goes!
