hello, i am working on my late father's 68 f100 8 cylinder 360 and have a few questions... i had to replace the ignition switch and find a pigtail at a salvage yard that only had a 69 and i am left with two purple wires. i have researched and found out that one goes to the parking brake and the other is a registor wire for the alternator (different from the pink registor for the coil) ok great...now where do i put them at the ignition switch? or is this info wrong?
The other thing is a few of my spark plugs have oil on them, and a few have a flat black soot i have learned is some kinda carbon deposit, ok how do I go about fixing these situations?
thank you for your help

Check out the wiring diagrams in the tech section. I am sure someone has done what you are doing and will chime in. Oh and welcome aboard from Gerber, Ca. Oil on plugs could be a clogged PCV valve. Or it could be oil leaking past the rings or valve guides. I hope it is the PVC valve.

PVC valve, great I will check that first thank you. The wiring diagrams do show the purple wires but I don't understand where to put them in the pigtail plug that goes into switch. nobody that I see sells that plug so I guess I will keep my eye on pick n pulls inventory and wait for a 68 to show up.

Hate to tell you this after the trouble you went through already, but the switch for '70 and up trucks uses 1/4" spade terminals, and a pigtail is sold by Napa. Wiring is pretty much the same.
The purple wire for the "parking brake" goes to the PO pin on the diagram below. This wire is actually for a warning light for when the brakes fail hydraulically. The brake distribution valve has a switch that is tripped if the pressure is lost in part of the system. A valve inside will move sealing off the system (front or rear) that has failed. This will also trip the switch and cause that small light above the parking brake release to turn on. The purple wire is a "prove out" designed to turn the light on to let you know that it still works. It is illuminated when the ignition switch is in the start position.
Can't tell you exactly what the other purple wire goes to, but I don't think it goes to the alternator. The alt gets it's ignition power from a black wire that is connected to the accessory pin.
Here are some diagrams that should help you out. NOTE: In the diagrams for '68 and '69 the wires leading to the A pin and C pin on the ignition switch are switched. http://www.fordification.com/tech/schematics_h.htm
