I'm looking for 2"× 5"angle iron by 5" long to bolt to the frame then weld the 2 1/2" × 2 1/2" square iron to that and have the rest of the bumper spot welded. I have about $425.00 into the hole project and hope to have it on the truck this weekend. If I can find a welder. All the iron was given to me by a friend and I just bought the lights, winch and stainless steel push bar.

A friend of mine that lives North of Omaha has got my angle iron cut for me and I will have it next weekend so I can fit them to the front frame and then weld the bumper to them. Got the Hurst pistolgrip mounted in today.

Started with just a chassis and put a ford 300-6 in it. When the bread company had it, it had a bt4 Cummins.

The bumper was CNC plasma cut from 3/8" A36. I formed the bends by heating with a torch and attached to the frame with 1/2X5 flatbar. The top of the bumper is 1/4" plate. The burnout was probably $150, the rest of the stuff was laying around.
I liked that bumper. Looked good, got lots of compliments on it and proved all the guys who told me that winch would look stupid on the nose of a pickup wrong. Short of a crash at a decent speed that bumper wasn't going to deform and I like that.
My new bumper will be the same basic design, but the winch is more compact so it won't need to hang out there quite as far. it will attach differently because the frame will be new and I plan to make the frame with some extra out front and weld the bumper straight to the frame. Bolts are great, but I'm not worried about taking it off anytime and like the idea of the front bumper acting as a structural member in the frame.
My theory on driving an old pickup truck is that they entirely lack crumple zones and a design meant to absorb the shock from an impact so I figure it's just best to play to the strong point of the design. Build it heavy and rigid enough to survive an impact at speed and if you're tough enough you might walk away from it.
