I have noticed a rhythmic clicking/popping noise fr my factory radio since I installed it. I was working on the instrument panel yesterday and the clicking was not there. When I plugged the cluster back in, the clicking returned. The blinkers and hazards were in the off position.
Does anybody have any thoughts what could be causing this?

Do you mean when the engine's running or not? If not, about the only thing I would think of would be a bad ground or maybe the IPVR (instrument panel voltage regulator)? I'm not an electrical expert at all. Just hate to see a thread go unresponded to.

I feel so loved, thank you for not leaving me in cyberspace. This is when the engine is not running. My glass packs are too noisy to hear the clicking while running.
I wonder about the regulator. Will a bad regulator pin out gauges or make them zero?

Don't know for sure about that but a bad IPVR's got to have some effect on 'em, else why would they design one in? Any of our electrical guru's care to chime in? (insert sound of cricket's chirping here...)

Bad ground is most likely, something is throwing off RF noise. However, I don't know enough about the wiring of these trucks to know where to look.
Another possibility is a corroded or damaged connection somewhere arcing slightly. I'd check and clean all your contacts, make sure everything is tight, and all the grounds are good.

Yes, the IPVR can cause a constant rythymic clicking noise on the AM radio. Mine does it too. It's not very loud though. I think the IVR is okay though because all of my dash guages seem to be functioning normally. I first noticed the clicking noise with the factory AM radio and again when I installed an aftermarket AM/FM cassette stereo unit but, only on the AM band.

If you rewire your radio power wire through a relay all outside interference sound should go away.

Other options...
replacing the antenna cable can often fix the problem, as can installing a filter in the feed line.

I was wonder if it makes a difference what band AM or FM

I think I need a condenser on the gauge voltage regulator. I found one in a salvage yard a couple days ago, but it was torn.
