Sending unit for "Travel Tanks" aux fuel tanks

Post by lenniesdad »

Hi there, got a 71 Highboy I'm restoring and I have the "Travel Tanks" out and the bed off. The rheostat in the sending units are worn and I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a replacement unit? Thanks for the help!

Give this a look see; http://www.ebay.com/itm/320848565024?ss ... 1423.l2649

A gentleman on here used this on one of his tanks that had the knock-out,but no sender was installed previously, I was unable to find the thread on here, but did save the part he used to my E-bay account, in case I decided to add them to my tanks in the future. See what you think, might be a lead. :hmm:

Thanks Kurt, glad you could confirm. I knew it was someone on here, you know what they say, the memory is the first thing to go. I was however impressed by the job you did, and at some point am considering it for my truck, just have to figure out a simple way to manage the valve and gauge for three tanks(truck has two travel tanks) so as not to get confusing.

Hi-Boy, the valve I replaced on my truck was for three tanks, so they are available as long as you use a mechanical unit. I have thought of removing the alternator gauge and replacing it with a second gas gauge, you could switch one of them, giving you three gauges. Then I was going to install a voltage gauge under the dash or add an idiot light for the alternator. I would also imagine there is a three way switch made.

Sorry for the hi-jacked thread, but I couldn't resist.

lenniesdad, you're welcome, with special thanks to Kurt Combs. As long as were hi-jacked, I'm thinking of an electrical switch that would mimic the three way valve. Keep things simple when driving, I have a hard enough time now trying to remember which tank has fuel in it, when the engine sputters and dies when a tank goes dry, and it needs switched quickly to get going again! Would be nice not to just change it while still running. Your gauge idea has merit, thinking of either putting two more in the factory dash, or making a gang of three replacement gauges. Oh well, there's time yet to think on it, as for now there's bigger fish to fry on my truck anyway. Thanks again!
