Crazed turn signal flashers

Post by spider424 »

I'm having a crazy time with the turn signals on my 67 f100, sometimes they flash fine then the next day crazy fast then normal later in the day.
Next thing you know fast flashing. Driving me nuts! I checked the bulbs and found two bad ones, I replaced them and it was fine for a day but went nuts the next day.
I cant even find the flasher.

My flasher is directly behind the instrument cluster. I can probably get to it from underneath, but I actually found it when I changed clusters.

That sounds like the flasher itself might be going out. The bi-metal strips inside get weak over time. Here's a good thread on where the flasher "should be" located:

on my 67, it is mounted above the brake and clutch bracket, a large gold colored box. it is easy to just un hook the wires and attach a newer style can flasher. i am in the process of rebuilding my box flasher, as they are a really heavy duty style and are no loger availible to my knowlege from a parts house.
