Thanks
Here's some photos.
Large grommet above driver's side vent; wires for the dome light switch, fuel sending unit, dome light and cargo light. Cargo light harness follows the dome and fuel sending wires.
I was able to shove the wires up there, plenty stiff enough to go.

Lamp end of cargo light harness, cab had no factory cargo light.

Hard to see in this poor photo, power to the harness is a 2 wire into a female bullet connector. Constant hot, dome light circuit(?).
Mine was left of the steering column, I've seen either yellow/green stripe or green/yellow stripe 2 into 1 used.
One in the left of the photo with the green female connector came out of a '69. Black female connector hanging down to the the right is my '72, same connector I've found used for '71/'72 models with a factory cargo light.

Not to hijack, but I'm in the process of collecting everything to install a cargo light in "Rusty".
"Rusty" is a base model 67 with no door jamb switches but still has a dome light, activated by the headlight switch.
My question is, will my under dash harness have connections for this built in ?
The diagram I saw under tech/tutorials doesn't show plainly enough but looks like I may have to have the door jamb switches for this to work.
I just won a complete factory set up on Ebay to keep it all factory with no splicing, hopefully the plug ins are built into a base model harness for this.
All of the above posts have been very helpful which is why I love this forum.
TIA, Calvin
I have everything too including the factory harness. I had the original bezel rechromed, pefect switch, everything works,a dn I too AM CHICKEN to start cutting on the back of my cab. Looking at the picture above - is that a brace that has to be cut through in order to mount the cargo light? Holy crap I hope not.
BTW - I have a template that I can copy this weekend and post next week.

I added one to my 72 F-250, I just measured the part that sticks into the body and just cut out what was needed. My cargo light switch looked and worked like brand new but I decided not to install it, instead I just hooked it to the interior light wire. It works just like the new trucks, it comes on when I open the door or from the light switch. having had both in years past, I wasn't sure at first if I would like it not having the big red glowing switch. After having it this way for several months I can say I like it better without the switch.

I started my install Saturday and so far it's been a fun upgrade.
I did find a factory hot wire in my base model harness, but it wasn't a two into one wire like the above photo.
I just took the cluster out and found three unused plug ins.
Then I used my test light to find which one was hot with the key on.
I temperarily plugged everything in and grounded it and every thing lit up, so good to go there.
Then using a template I found on here years ago,(which I can't find now) I cut the hole in the cab.
Pretty easy once I got it centered and laid out.
I used a hole saw on each end and cut the remainder with an air cut off wheel.
I then deburred everything and brush painted the edges.
Today I installed the light and used some clear silicone between the gasket and the cab to keep it sealed,I hope.
That's all the further I got today, ran out of daylight, hopefully soon I can get it finished up.
I know you guys are going to hang me for not taking pics. but I don't have a camera yet.
To answer Mach428's question, I didn't have to cut an extra brace inside the cab nor did I see one so don't be scared just measure three times and cut once.
I guess tomorrow I'll try to get the harness fished through the front pillar and then it will just be a matter of putting it all back together.

I got everything installed today except the headliner and guess what, the cargo light actually works like it should.
I did find the cargo light hole template but for some reason I can't get it to paste here, but here is the path,Home_Photo Galleries_Forum Reference Photo Gallery.
I had it printed out from back in 2007 so I knew it was here some where.

Calvin, which plug inns did you use? Only one I've found avaliable under the dash of my 68 is a solid brown with a female connector?

Perhaps having the cargo lamp wired separate from the dome light gives the abilty to operate only one lamp at a time, less battery drain? It is nice to have each lamp controlled independantly of each other.
That's what the PO did on my truck. I want the cargo light on a separate circuit, then I want to put in some courtesy switches in the door pillars. I would rather the cargo light not come on when I open the doors.

Not sure on the color but that sounds right.
Just stick a test light in the connector and turn the ignition switch on and see if it has power, that's how I found mine.
