How to measure instrument voltage regulator
I am working on my 68 ford truck and trying to get my gauges working properly. I have many of the feeds on here and they have been quite helpful, however, I want to know how to measure the IVR. Is there some trick to know whether it is set for 3 volts or 5-7 volts? Thanks for any help on this.

The only time I tested the IVR is when I was trying to get my gas gauge to work properly. Since sending unit for the fuel gauge is powered by the IVR and is behind the seat and easy to get to, it will probably work for you. Pull the wire from the top of the sending unit, turn on the ignition key and touch one wire from your multimeter to the inside of the wire you disconnected and put the other end to where the wire was connected or any other ground. It should pulse to 5 amps. If not you have to remove the IVR and turn a little screw to adjust it. If your IVR is bad, I found a site on the Internet that shows how to make one out of Radio Shack parts.
