Looking for recommendations...

Post by Calfdemon »

I tried searching the forum, but the search function seems to be hit and miss lately, and more times than not, says it is not working right now.

Anyway, I want to definately put electric door locks in my crew cab, and probably will also spring for electric windows as well. What I am looking for are any recommendations for electric window and door lock kits for our trucks. Perferably any first hand experience (good or bad) with particular kits so I know what might work well, and what to stay away from.

When I had my 72 standard cab, I didnt really care and could just lean across the cab to unlock the door, or lock it before getting out of the drivers door and then locking it with the key. The problem with the crew cab is there is no key hole on the rear doors, and of course, they set it up the same way as the front doors where it automatically unlocks when you shut them. So there is a whole lot of reaching across and doing in-cab acrobatics in order to get all 4 doors locked and the windows all rolled up.

On a side note, is there a way to disable the "auto-unlock" feature our trucks have when you close the door? That would be a waaaaaaay cheaper solution for me if I could get the rear doors to stay locked when you shut them. Personally, I would be happy if only the driver's door auto-unlocked upon shutting it.

Thanks in advance for any help with any of this!!

Thanks. I looked at Balls and Julianos and dont see anything specifically for our trucks, but they have some universal applications. Not exactly sure what I should be looking for that might work with our trucks. One of the ones that appears to be a possibility is the one that powers the existing crank (I think Balls had it). I thought I remembered someone on here installing it and saying that when they activate their windows, the window crank turn on its own, but not sure if it was a positive review or not.

I have found kits specific to dents, and even a 67 only kit. But the bumps seem to be passed over with specific bolt in kits. The only one I could find for our trucks specifically is by a seller on Ebay (good rating, and has lots of window kits).

Its a little pricy, but does anyone have any experience with this kit? Sad thing is for a crew, i am going to need 2 kits... $850 bucks! Way more than I was hoping to spend, and then I still need to look at auto door locks.

LMC offers these. They're universal, but also tons cheaper.

I know someone said to avoid autoloc. I bet some other companies make similar products. This way you keep the original look.

Here's another one.

Thanks for the links. I have seen the handle activator systems, but I want to be able to control all 4 windows from the driver's seat and these systems dont seem to offer that (unless I am missing something which is very possible). My main motivation for putting in auto windows is so I can roll down any window from the drivers seat, its not from being too lazy to crank the handle (I actually love old school crank windows). Maybe I could get the handle activators for each door, but then somehow wire in 3 additional switches to the rear doors and passenger door that I can mount somewhere on the driver's side for central control. I dunno.. Ill have to look into that option.

Is there anyone out there that has put power windows in their bump that can mention the pros/cons of whatever setup they used?

I'm sure there are, but they're probably asleep right now. Going to have to wait for morning.

I've heard real good stuff about these guys: http://www.nu-relics.com/

No first-hand experience, though...

Ah, thanks for that link!! I did not find them in my previous searches and based on the photos and info, they seem to be the same product that the Ebay guy is selling, and their area code is the same area. Pretty much the same price too, but if good things are said about them, then the higher price might be worth paying.

The ebay seller is in Mocksville, NC, while the manufacturer is in East Bend, so that part's not the same. They are, however, relatively close, and just a few miles up the road from me.

If you decide to go with those, be sure to share all of the installation details with us!!

Well, the power windows and door locks are not going to happen until the tax return comes in (along with paint, and a lot of bill paying). But using the next couple of months to try and get enough info to make an educated decision on what I should buy. Seems that there are a few decent looking products out there, but as of yet, no one here that has any hands on experience with any of them. Anyway, I will definately be posting updates on whatever I do in my build thread, but in the meantime, still doing my homework! Thanks again for the input so far...

 Have this in my chevelle. Very well made and I am going to put them in the 69 also. I would not use any universal kits, but don't know if anything is available for crew cabs.
