trailer lights

Post by fordman »

i am trying to get my trailer lights working. everything tis hooke dup color coded so thats the easy part. but i have no nothing on the passenger side of the trailer. i took the housing out and hooked it up to the battery. it works. i do have power to the plug on that side. but im not sure its enough power or something. the meter i am workign with onl ygoes down to 200 Vdc. so its hard to tell what i am getting through to the housing.

anyway the drivers side works with blinker and tail. but when you set on the brake the light goes out. since these two problems. i am thinking it is a bad ground. does that sound right?

this is a bumpside trailer.

i got it. one of the sockets had been replaced and was wired backwards. so the blinker element was the tail light. somehow that was feeding back and powerign par time the blinker and tail light for the other side. but after all that i ended up replacing both bulbs to match with a 1157x. not a 1157. then i had to run a new wire to the passenger side socket for tail lights. it all seems to work now.

I was going to suggest a bad ground, but it seems you already fixed. Good for you.

yea it wasna bad grounmd. but i though it was last night. it was a mess. the ol dwiring is all spliced up. it really just needs new wiring to it. and maybe a new socket for the drivers side.
