I decided to install an underdash 8 track tape player I've had several years. When it was given to me, he said the only time it was ever hooked up was the night before just to make sure it worked. It still has the solder on the wire ends and has no scratch marks anywhere.
Now the problem. I can't seem to get the speakers wired right. Here are the wires:
Red w/fuse To positive
Black To Batt. Grnd
White Speaker Grnds
Green Left Speaker
Gray ????????
Brown ????????
I do know all the speakers work. But for some reason I can't figure how to wire it for the right side to work. If it helps any, it;s a Realistic.

Re: 8 Track Wiring
I would also suspect that the unit grounds through the case or that the speakers are grounded to the chassis...
Some of these units were set up so that the radio speakers were wired to the 8 track and then it would turn them off when the tape was playing.
I would try to hook that white wire to the right speaker. (most all 12V wiring has Black as ground or Green)
The gray and brown could be the wires that you would wire the radio speakers to or they could be for the rear speakers if the unit is designed as a quad speaker set up (fader control) or a quadraphonic which would be labeled on the unit... OR they could be the ground wires for the front 2 speakers...

Re: 8 Track Wiring
OK thanks. I'll try to get back out this evening and try again. So if y'all see smoke in Northeast Texas, you'll know I got a wire wrong.

I got the tape deck in. Stil don't have a balance though. Had to do a little "southern engineering" on the brackets, but they came out really well.
Now to go find a bigger selection of 8 tracks. I know of a resell shop that has a large selection of 60's, 70's country and Rock and Roll. May have to swing by one day after work. Floyd Cramer and Andy Gibbs are OK but not for long.

Thanks again for y'alls help .
