our trucks never came with that kind of resistor. they had a resistor wire. you can get a new resistor wire from the parts store. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detai ... &ppt=C0334

so possibly someone added it years ago? its odd,the truck has an aftermarket "hi po" coil in it,accel coil,it was definately hacked it to it,shoddy wiring and all,so just get that wire resistor and it should be ok? thanks!

i dont know what kind of resistance the coil you have takes. you have to find out and use that kind of resistor.

If your truck has been re-wired for a ballast resistor, you can get them at the local parts stores. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/searc ... t+resistor

it probably has that coil because the points have been elimintaed and needs that high voltage coil. i am guessing. i still need your zip code.

Even with a factory coil you will need a resistor, either the stock type "resistor wire" or a "ballast resistor" like the one you have now. With points you only want 6-9 volts at the coil (+) wire, this is why the resistor wire or ballast resistor is needed.

anyone know what wires the right one? the diagram says its red with green stripe,i got a resistor wire from the local parts store and its got a bullet connector on it,the red/green wire comin out of firewall has a connector on it already looks original and it fits to the top of the coil, like the starter relay has,the threaded lug thingy, the wires got a 90 degree turn at connector on coil....im confused, plus its super long! if i were to add the resistor wire i bought it would be way to long! any help? thanks again! :? :? :? :?

the original wire will be red with green stripe for a little ways. but the resistor wire hooks onto the end of that. and is usually pink or sometimes faded white from the heat. the original resistor wire is usually in a separate casing or cloth covering. you may be able to see my resistor wire in this picture of my 67 . yes you can. right in the center of the picture. you can see a red wire with a green plug that plugs into a white wire with a green plug on it. mine is a early 67 wiring harness.
